Be prepared to spend some time separating your book into its separate chapter so that you don’t exceed the online chat window limit. Using the AI tool will give you perfectly good results for proofreading. In fact, I fed it the manuscripts after the human Line Editor and human Proofreader and myself had gone through it and it found some things that we all missed. I’m confident that the AI tools can also do line editing today; it will only get better with improved technology and training.
Now that I’ve been through this once, for my second book I will be using the AI tool exclusively for the line editing and the proofreading. It has the advantages that it’s (1) essentially free, (2) can be finished in several sittings in less than a week, (3) unlimited back-and-forth with the AI is up to you, and (4) is much less likely to miss something compared to a human editor and a human proofreader. So, you will save time and money and catch more mistakes if you’re comfortable going the AI route.
